Drinks Bottles Deposit Return Scheme
People in England will soon have to pay a deposit when they buy drinks bottles and cans in a bid to boost recycling and cut waste.
Designed to increase recycling rates
The deposit will increase prices – but consumers will get the money back if they return the container. The scheme is expected to cover single-use glass and plastic bottles and is designed to encourage the return of used bottles to stores for recycling. It is estimated that bottles can be recycled into new plastic up to 12 times so it’s easy to see how the environment will benefit. UK consumers use around 13 billion plastic drinks bottles a year but more than three billion are not recycled and environmental campaigners have welcomed the proposal.
Re-usable bottles offer an alternative
Re-usable, refillable, multi-use bottles are another eco-friendly option that is worth considering for those looking to reduce environmental impacts. Bottles made from BPA-free plastic, such as ‘Triton’ material are ideal for this purpose as they are dishwasher-safe and therefore hygenic for repeated re-usage.
Wide range of re-usable bottles available
There’s a wide range of refillable, re-usable bottles on the market, in all shapes and sizes and at prices to suit most budgets, from the premium Sportsman Triton Sports Bottle (pictured right) to less-expensive ranges. All fulfill the right eco-brief and are great for the environment.
